ALMOST 95 per cent of all adults aged 18 plus in Dumfries and Galloway have now had at least one vaccination against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, coming on for 80 per cent have had both doses, which is very important in providing the higher degree of protection against the Delta Variant.
As the vaccination programme team begin to plan for a conclusion to this phase in vaccinating against COVID-19, cases in the region still remain at a fairly constant level.
Director of Public Health Valerie White said: “The response to the vaccination programme in Dumfries and Galloway has been terrific, and we’re very pleased that people are still coming forward to arrange to be vaccinated.
“At our recent pop-up clinic in Dumfries we saw nearly 120 people receiving either a first dose or a second dose if they’d been waiting more than eight weeks. In Stranraer on Monday, another pop-up clinic saw nearly 60 people taking the opportunity.

“After the announcement by the First Minister on Tuesday of a move beyond Level 0 in the national COVID protection framework from Monday, and with case numbers still stubbornly high in Dumfries and Galloway, it’s important that everyone gives real consideration now to getting vaccinated. It’s also really important that everyone who has had one vaccination organises to get their second as close to eight weeks as possible after their first.”
As part of national moves, vaccinations are now starting to take place for a limited number of children and young people aged 12 to 17 who have certain conditions.
By telephone, the local vaccination team will be contacting families of younger people who are eligible to be vaccinated due to one of the following: severe neuro-disabilities, Down’s syndrome, underlying conditions resulting in immunosuppression, and those who have a diagnosis of a learning/intellectual disability.

As at the end of August 1 2021, a total of 115,043 first dose vaccinations had been delivered in the region, representing 94.1 per cent of the population. Across Scotland, this stands at 89.8 per cent.
Second doses stand at 94,836 or 77.6 per cent of the population. Across Scotland as a whole, it is 72.2 per cent.
