CAPTAIN DUNCAN FERGUSON STANDS DOWN AS CHAIRMAN OF STEWARTRY DIABETES UK SUPPORT GROUP

End of an Era for Diabetes UK Stewartry Support Group

Captain Duncan Ferguson handed over the latest donation of £1000 to Dr Fiona Green for the Health Board’s Diabetes Endowment fund as he stands down from his role as chairman of the Diabetes UK Stewartry Support Group after 10 years

The Group was formed in 2004 with support from local GP Dr Gregor Purdie with the aim to educate and provide support to those with the condition with regular meetings attended by specialists being invited to talk to the group.  By the first Annual General Meeting in 2005 more than 120 names were already on the register of members with around 30 attending each meeting.  As well as attending the meetings the group have raised over £7,000 for charity, including several significant contributions to the Health Board’s Diabetes Endowment Fund.

Dr Fiona Green said:

“The Board’s diabetes team are extremely grateful for the recent contribution from the Stewartry Diabetes Support Group and wish to thank Captain Ferguson and the Group for all the work they have done to raise the profile of diabetes in Dumfries and Galloway as well as their substantial fundraising activities”

Captain Ferguson said:

“The good news is that the group enters a new era with a new chairman, Revd. Douglas Irving from Kirkcudbright.

Meetings are planned for Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie.

I would like to thank the committee for their enthusiasm who helped enormously as did the staff in the local Castle Douglas health centre.”
