Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed news that plans for a major project in Whithorn have been given a boost in their funding plans.
The local MSP says the community will welcome that plans for a sustainable tourism and community hub have progressed on Stage Two of funding from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.
In total, the project are looking for a grant of £1.4m in order to boost the local economy and have a community hub that allows local residents and visitors to learn about Whithorn’s heritage and use it for community activities.
Commenting, Finlay Carson MSP said: “I warmly welcome the news that this major project for Whithorn has progressed another significant milestone and I applaud everyone for their work so far.
“This is a project with significant potential to boost the local economy in Whithorn and bring the community closer, with a hub being used for many activities.
“This is an exciting time for Whithorn, with lots of work going on to promote the historic heritage of the area, which will also attract tourists to come and learn.
“I hope that these plans will continue to come to fruition and that the town will reap the rewards of community led initiatives.”
Adding his support, Councillor Graham Nicol said: “I am delighted that progress is being made on this project and welcome this news.
“This along with possible developments which the Whithorn Trust are working towards will give a very welcome boost to the economy of Whithorn and the whole of the surrounding area of the South Machars.”
