CASTLE DOUGLAS BYPASS TO BE CLOSED 14th-19th NOVEMBER

Continuing Castle Douglas Investment
Transport Scotland will bring its investment on the A75 Castle Douglas Bypass to £1.2million with further resurfacing work being carried out this autumn.

Work will be carried out during November, both eastbound and westbound between Abercromby and Blackpark Underpass, with the £300,000 scheme being the fourth project in the area to benefit from improvements.

Ken Bryden, Area Network Manager for Scotland TranServ said:

“Over the last 18 months we’ve been working to bring further improvements to the trunk road infrastructure across Dumfries and Galloway. Roads are vital to the local economy and our work supports the growth and development of the region.”

We will be using crack and seat method to repair and replace the A75 road surface more efficiently and effectively. The existing road structure will be milled down to the concrete base layer, where tiny purpose made cracks will be introduced to allow the foundation to expand and contract, reducing the potential for cracking in the top surface layer. This process reduces wastage and thus minimizes the haulage miles associated with such a project.

It will be necessary to employ a full road closure, with diversions in place taking traffic through the town. The closure will be in place from:

19.00 Friday 14th November to 06.00 Monday 19th November.

Russell Rennie, Scotland TranServ’s Contract Director added:

“Dumfries and Galloway is an important economic gateway for Scotland. As well as carrying tourists to and from the ferry ports, the region’s trunk roads are also the arteries carrying essential freight traffic from the continent. It is essential that Scotland TranServ continues to maintain and improve the surfacing to deliver tangible benefits for visitors, freight drivers and commuters and support the local economy, where we can, in the long-term.”
