There will be chaos and disaster in local town Dalry on Wednesday 5th March, with a staged mock resilience test event taking place.
The event has been organised by Loch Ken Trust, D&G Climate Hub, and Dalry Community Council Resilience Team, and will take place from 11am-12pm on the Throughgate in St John’s Town of Dalry.
The event will see a mock emergency scenario putting community members and their resilience plan to the test. Emergency Services will be in attendance to help bring the scenario to life.
This could not be more timely, following in the heels of Storm Eowyn, with many communities being without power for a number of days.
The Loch Ken Trust are currently working on a Climate Ready Glenkens project, funded by the National Lottery Awards for All Community Fund, assisting Glenkens communities with resilience planning.
The D&G Climate Hub is part of the national network of Climate Hubs funded by Scottish Government’s Lets Do Net Zero programme. The D&G Climate Hub is hosted by the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere.
Jenna Cains from the D&G Climate Hub said. “We strongly encourage all communities in D&G to have up to date resilience plans to help mitigate the impacts of severe weather events. As our climate changes, the likelihood of stronger storms will increase, and it is crucial that communities can manage the impacts and bounce back quickly.”
Head Ranger Leane Pumpr said “The aim of the Test Event is to send the message to communities to make sure they have robust resilience plans in place and know what to do in an extreme weather event. With the increase in storms, it is important that communities know how they can support themselves until wider support arrives. We’re delighted to be able to continue our resilience work thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players we will be able to support our communities to be prepared for the challenges to come””
We would encourage any resilience teams and members of the community to come along to watch the event.
