Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, Patsy Gilroy, has appointed a new Deputy Lieutenant: Christopher Brian Walker.
Chris Walker lives in Gatehouse of Fleet and has worked in the region for more than 30 years.
Since 2006, he has owned and run a busy hotel, The Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright with his wife, Sue.
He initially worked for Trust House Forte Hotels before taking on the Creebridge Hotel in Newton Stewart in 1989.
Chris has been a board member of Wigtown District Tourist Association and chairman of the Dumfries and Galloway Hoteliers’ Association.
He was a food presenter for BBC Radio 2 and host of Border TV’s Spoon with a View.
Chris has been married to Sue for 32 years. Their daughter, Lisa, is an auxiliary nurse in Carlisle.
In grateful thanks for a heart operation that was “life-changing”, Chris cycled from Kirkcudbright to John O’Groats to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
Welcoming Chris to his new role, Patsy said: “I’m delighted that Chris has agreed to become one of my Deputy Lieutenants. I know he will bring a wealth of local knowledge and experience to the position as well as a huge amount of enthusiasm. I look forward to his input and his innovative ideas for promoting the work of the Lieutenancy in the Stewartry.”
