St. Andrew’s School wins a Clyde visit and a Game On Scotland Plaque!
A Few Weeks ago DGWGO were invited by The staff at St Andrews primary school Dumfries to pop along when a very special Guest was visiting . We were told to keep it top secret as they didn’t want any of the kids to find out and ruin the surprise ! So yesterday our very own R.B went along , and had the pleasure of Meeting Clyde , The Galsgow 2014 Mascot and his support team . Clyde was at St Andrews to meet and thank the kids and present them with a very Special Plaque for the school !
The excitement of the Commonwealth Games being held in Scotland draws nearer and St. Andrew’s pupils and school community celebrate their successes so far with a visit from Clyde and a Game On Scotland Plaque award on their first day back at school!
Children were thrilled with their surprise visit from Clyde the Commonwealth Mascot, who put on a show to further raise awareness of the Commonwealth Games and some famous Scottish athletes to cheer for. Towards the end of the interactive show, the school were awarded with a Game On Scotland Plaque, received by
. Mr Leaver praised pupils and school community, recognising that very few schools in Dumfries and Galloway have received the award in recognition of creating wider learning experiences created around the Glasgow 2014 context. “All of this on the first day back at school! I look forward to all your achievements at the end of the term!.”
Mrs Chierici-Black explained that the whole school have been involved in creating valuable learning and teaching experiences around “this very important, relevant and exciting context of Glasgow 2014”. “Curriculum for Excellence outcomes and experiences have been organised by teachers to provide learning across the curriculum, engaging learners in different aspects of the Commonwealth.” Examples have included: Cooking and Baking from Commonwealth Countries whereby parents came into the school to share recipes from different Commonwealth countries and cultures they had a connection with. Children also have listened to music and instruments from different countries and thereafter made their own instrument from general household
