As part of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s savings measures for this year, it has been agreed to reduce the number of flower bedding areas that the Council maintains across the region.
The following beds in the Stranraer area have been identified as part of this savings measure;
Market Street
Port Rodie Roundabout
Springwell Road Corner
Stoneykirk Road Verges
The Council needs your help if you would like to see these areas continue to be blooming marvellous this summer!
Consideration by communities on this matter would be appreciated, particularly as to whether local community groups could offer ways to undertake the on-going planting and maintenance of these beds rather than the Council removing them and grassing the areas over.
Marion McCutcheon, Chair of the Wigtown Area Committee said;
“We look forward to working with organisations and individuals within our community to ensure that we can, at this time of savings, work together to provide opportunities to make our flower beds as attractive as possible”.
Our Council look forward to any practicable suggestions from community groups and will defer removing the beds to allow time to consider these suggestions.
