Members of the Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Policy and Resources Committee will be told at the meeting next week that council officers have been successful in collecting additional Council Tax income.
With a particular focus on collecting monies in relation to bad debt, approximately £500,000 of additional income has been collected by officers.
The Council has a responsibility to the public to maximise its receipts from Council Tax, Rates, Sundry Debtors and overpaid Housing Benefit. In doing so it has successfully followed a strategy which has led to high collections in all areas of income, and has one of the highest council tax collection rates in Scotland.
Committee Chairman, Councillor Rob Davidson, said, “It is reassuring to see that the Council is achieving such high collection rates year on year. The news of this additional income demonstrates the commitment and effectiveness of our officers. By gathering these monies, the Council is able to provide the services and activities that our local communities depend on every day.”
