A kind-hearted Dalbeattie woman has bequeathed £4,600 to Guide Dogs Scotland.
Flora Duffy, who sadly passed away in March at the age of 93, was the great aunt of Specsavers Dumfries store director Jill Dickson.
In her will, Mrs Duffy asked that the money go to the charity as, for decades previously, she felt very strongly about how bad it would have been to lose her sight.
Staff were delighted to hear about the generous donation and invited representatives from Guide Dogs Scotland to visit the store as a tribute to Flora, who was originally from Dunscore.
Jill – and her husband Mark and son Harry who work at the store with her – said they were all very moved by the donation.
Jill said: ‘We’re very proud that Flora chose to leave the money to Guide Dogs. It’s an organisation that’s very close to our hearts and we are very aware of the fantastic impact it has on people in Dumfries and its surrounding communities.
‘Flora was a wonderful and very generous lady and it’s very moving to know that she felt so strongly about the charity.’
Nicola Smith, legacy officer with Guide Dogs Scotland, says: ‘Legacies and gifts in wills are really important to Guide Dogs Scotland as they fund two out of three guide dogs.
‘It costs around £50,000 to train and support each guide dog throughout its working life and this is supported entirely by public generosity. Legacies and gifts in wills are an invaluable contribution to our life-changing services.’
