Dumfries and Galloway Council has launched it’s 2016/17 Graduate Experience Programme. The programme is offering up ten placement opportunities this year, to graduates who have links to Dumfries and Galloway.
The programme, now in its fifth year offers the chance of real project work in a fast-paced environment for an 8 month period. This year’s placements include helping create a financial harm toolkit to help the victims of scams, assisting in improving records management within the Council and an exciting opportunity to work on an innovative educational project. The placements are a continued illustration of our Council’s commitment to boosting the local economy and giving young people employment opportunities.
Council Leader Ronnie Nicholson commented;
“Building the local economy is our Council’s number one priority. Our Council also continues to deliver on our promise to create meaningful employment opportunities to young people in the region. The experience that these Graduates will gain is second to none, and is a great chance to transfer core skills like communication and leadership learnt through university into a working environment. I would encourage anyone who is eligible to apply for the scheme. Of the 40 or so graduates that have passed through the scheme previously, more than half now have a job with our Council. It really is a superb opportunity.”
The scheme has specific criteria that means only those with links to the region are eligible to apply for one of the placements. To be eligible, you must have achieved a degree in the last 18 months meet one of the following criteria;
The scheme attracted over 120 applications last year – a record for the programme.
Lauren McDaid is currently coming to the end of her placement from last year. She said of the programme;
“The Graduate Programme provided me with opportunities to learn new skills, gain work experience and meet new people. The Graduates and I formed a support network from the start and this is important, as it makes the transition from University to the Working world a more enjoyable process.”
The recruitment process is open from Monday 18 April to Friday 13 May. A copy of the Graduate Prospectus can be downloaded from our website at www.dumgal.gov.uk
