D&G Students NHS Garments Prove Sew Popular

A creative arts student from Dumfries and Galloway College has been making garments for the local NHS.

Ann Eales had to self-isolate at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic due to health issue but has put her time in lockdown to great use by sewing items for the local health service.

Encouraged by a friend, Ann began by making pyjama trousers for patients in a range of different colours and patterns before moving on to make washbags and scrubs for staff.

She uses high-quality quilting cotton in her creations which have been warmly welcomed by the Dumfries and Galloway NHS.

When she ran out of her own fabric, Ann was given stocks from a local group called Dumfries Scrubbers who also helped distribute her creations.

Making the items has allowed Ann to help those in need as well as to gain a sense of achievement while beating the boredom of self-isolation at this difficult time.

Dumfries and Galloway College students and staff have played a pivotal role in the South of Scotland’s fightback against COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic, led by the strategic vision of Principal Joanna Campbell, the college has provided resources, expertise, time, and effort to the effort against the virus; with the police, NHS, and fire service in the region benefiting significantly.

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“Ann has done a tremendous job in designing and creating these lovely and much-needed resources.

“She should be very proud of the contribution she has made to the regional effort against coronavirus; her college certainly is.

“Students and staff from our college have been working flat out since we moved to remote learning, using their time to help those in need of support and I am very proud of their efforts and results.”
