Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP) held a successful community event in Langholm on Monday (June 10).
The event, in the Buccleuch Centre, was held in partnership with Langholm Initiative, and saw more than 30 tenants and residents attend throughout the day.
In addition, 23 secondary school pupils attended and gave their input into what DGHP can do to get young people involved as well as hearing about the different careers at DGHP.
On the day those attending came along to find out about what was going on in their community from the various agencies attending as well as hearing about DGHP’s investment programme.
Tenants were also able to meet their Neighbourhood Manager and Technical Inspector as well as hearing more about how to get involved with DGHP, finding out how to get help with benefits as well as help with applying for a home.
Agencies attending included – Kate’s Kitchen, Langholm Initiative, Langholm Tenants and Residents Association (TARA), Solway Credit Union, COSLA (Loan Sharks), Police Scotland, Social Security Scotland, Homes4D&G, DGHP contractors Morgan Sindall and idVerde, DGHP’s welfare benefits team, DGHP’s investment team, Citrus Energy and the XCEL Youth Project.
A total of 23 pupils from Langholm Academy also attended and came along to two separate sessions focused on careers and getting involved with DGHP. They gave positive feedback and some great ideas to think about with engagement.
At the end of the event a prize draw was held and the winners of the three food hampers were Jean Reid, Michele Lowe and Gordon Couperthwaite, all of Langholm.
Denis Male, chair of Langholm TARA, said: “The Langholm Tenants and Residents Association were delighted to be part of the DGHP Open Day at the Buccleuch Centre last Monday. It gave us an opportunity to meet local people and hear about their issues.”
