DGWGO FRIDAY FOCUS – Dental Care For The Under Privileged Children Of Batlagundu

Emily Januszewski is currently in her 2nd year of studying with The University of the Highlands & Islands at Dumfries Dental Centre towards becoming a qualified Dental Hygienist/Therapist! She moved to Dumfries in 2014 to start her course and thoroughly enjoy’s living in such a friendly community.
Emily Contacted us at DGWGO to tell us about a a fantastic project she is involved in: “This July, a group of students and I are traveling to Batlagundu in the south of India to volunteer with The SchoolHouse Volunteering Trust Dental Camp. During this 2 week camp we will provide much needed dental care to a disadvantaged community, particularly with the school children there.

These children may have never seen a dental care practitioner in their lives and we will provide essential treatment such oral hygiene and preventative education, basic scaling and fillings using a special technique called ART- Atraumatic Restorative Technique which allows fillings to be completed with limited equipment. This will help relieve patients of pain and prevent any future dental problems. The trust also teach English to the community during this camp.
This is an amazing opportunity to help a community and provide them with the care and treatment that they deserve.
As you may imagine, we need to raise a lot of money to fund the camp and provide the needed equipment, materials and supplies to run the dental camp.”
Emily has a  Just Giving page which can be found at
She will also be hosting some fundraising events in the next few weeks including
– Stall at the Park Farm Car Boot Sale – Sunday 24th April at 10.00am
– Pub Quiz including Games & Raffle with prizes kindly donated from local businesses at Greens Sports Bar, St Michael Street – Thursday 28th April at 7.30pm
Any donation or sponsorship would be greatly appreciated – even the smallest amount -every single penny will help towards making this camp a success as it has been in the previous years!
