DGWGO were recently contacted by a local driving instructor from Castle Douglas who wanted to tell us all about the fantastic way he is getting involved with raising money for Children In Need this year.
My name is Kevin Smith and I am supporting Children In Need by joining the Big Learner Relay.
The event was started in 2013 and founded by Louise Walsh. Last year over 2,500 miles, over 14 days, over 135 driving instructors and pupils relayed the Big Learner Relay Top Box from one driving lesson to another! Over 1000 instructors got involved either by going spotty, fundraising and sponsoring or by joining the relay. Some legs of the relay had convoys of instructor cars as far as the eye could see!
Kevin Told DGWGO” My driving school car is covered in Pudsey bear spots ready for the big day, 7th of November. My leg of the relay will go from the golf course in Castle Douglas at 11.00am to the Garden Wise Garden Centre in Dumfries at 12.00pm all whilst delivering a driving lesson to one of my pupil’s.”
“I will collect the Big Learner Relay top box and Louise from the Golf course and transport them to their next destination where they will be collected by the next learner and instructor,Shane Wilson of Danny’s School of Motoring. the rely will continue through D&G and stop in at Gretna Outlet Village at 1.00pm . Please do come along and cheer us off, wave at us when we pass by or meet us on our arrival , the route can be followed at http://www.biglearnerrelay.co.uk/the-route/”
“All donations are welcome through my just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/KEVIN-Smith57/ and hopefully there shall be other driving schools to join the convoy.”
The relay starts with one day in Northern Ireland on Monday 26th October. The Isle of Wight then kicks off the main route on Friday 30th October. The relay then continues its convoy around the UK finishing in Swindon on the 13th November – Children in Need Appeal Day 2015 – 15 days, 3000 miles, 180 lead driving lessons and many hundreds of instructors and pupils joining the convoy – Come and join us! See you in the relay!
Please support a brilliant cause and help us surpass last year’s amazing total !
