The Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of two rabbits who were discovered hopping around near a recycling centre in Dumfries.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was called out on Tuesday afternoon (24 June) after a member of the public spotted the animals close to Lincluden Recycling Centre on College Road.
The male rabbits are now being cared for by the charity and have been nicknamed Stig and Barney, after popular children’s book Stig of the Dump.
Inspector Janet Proudlock said, “Stig and Barney are both in good condition so there’s a chance they’ve escaped from home and their owner is worried about them.
“They both have a very calm nature, which may be a sign they’ve been well handled.
“However, we also have to consider the possibility they’ve been abandoned and are appealing to anyone who recognises them to get in touch with us on 03000 999 999.
“Stig and Barney are lovely rabbits with sweet natures and if no-one comes forward we’ll find them both a caring new owner.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
