Around 240 young job seekers from the region attended a Jobs Fair at Dumfries and Galloway College last week. 21 employers from sectors including Hospitality, Engineering, Manufacturing and Retail were on hand to recruit for existing opportunities and to give them advice on potential career paths.
The event was hosted by DG Employment TAP (Total Access Point) which promotes the work of all employability services across Dumfries and Galloway through a single point of contact through which young people and employers can access a range of services to support their business.
People attending the fair found it a worthwhile experience, judging by some of the feedback….
‘Good information’
‘Very helpful, wide range of employers’
‘Excellent opportunity’
‘Opened my eyes to more career prospects’
Councillor Colin Smyth, Chairman of the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee said:
“Providing young people with the opportunity to get onto the career ladder goes to the heart of our Council’s priorities. The fair offered our young people the chance to find out about the jobs market and get invaluable advice on the qualifications and training needed to succeed. I hope that by continuing to offer opportunities and encouragement we can help young people find work in Dumfries and Galloway.”
