Dumfries and Galloway Council acknowledge this afternoon’s announcement by the First Minister to the Scottish parliament that Dumfries and Galloway will remain in protection Level 2 for a further week – and for this to be reviewed agian next week.
A Council spokesperson stated “Suppressing the COVID-19 virus in Dumfries and Galloway has been a huge joint effort and it’s greatly appreciated.
You’re making a difference! Here in Dumfries and Galloway we’re on the right track towards lesser restrictions. We hope to move to Level 1 very soon if we all keep doing what we’re doing.
We know we’re not out of the woods yet, and we know it remains a challenge. With Christmas fast approaching, we may not be able to see as many of our family and friends as we would have hoped, but it will not be like this forever.”
Government COVID-19 guidelines still apply, and it is still vital that you stick to the FACTS:
- Face coverings
- Avoid crowded places
- Clean your hands regularly
- Two metre distance
- Self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms
Elaine Murray, Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council said:
“It’s very sad when we hear of any family in Dumfries and Galloway losing loved ones during the pandemic, and we know we’re not through it yet. But overall, our region is doing well: when we see figures of cases from other areas, it could’ve been so much worse. It is only through the concerted effort that citizens of our region have made to stay safe, respect the safety of others, and by protecting our NHS colleagues that we are where we are today. I would like to thank everyone for what they have done so far. Keep up your good work, and hopefully we’ll be in the less restrictive Level 1 very soon.”
Rob Davidson, Depute Leader said:
“It’s thanks to everyone’s good efforts that we are not in a much more difficult situation today, and that’s why we’ve our eyes on moving to Level 1 very soon. This pandemic has affected people in many different ways, from isolation and missing our families to how it is affecting our local businesses. We appreciate the hard effort everyone is making to keep safe and want to reassure you that our Council is still here to support you in any way we can.”
