Tourism’s Vital Statistics
Specialists will be working with Dumfries and Galloway Council to help gather vital statistics in an effort to boost visitor numbers in the region.
Information gaps were identified when developing the regional tourism strategy, so LJ Research and Coigach Consulting have been appointed to work with tourism businesses to fill in these gaps. The missing information, such as occupancy numbers for accommodation providers will help our Council target business support where it’s needed most.
Councillor Colin Smyth, Chair of the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee said:
“The economy of Dumfries and Galloway is the number one priority of our Council and tourism is a key sector with an annual return of some £300 million and providing over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs.
It appears that this year has been a really good one for our tourism sector, however we want to support and sustain this growth which is why we need robust data from businesses in the sector to help attract inward investment.”
LJ Research and Coignach Consulting have worked on similar projects with both the Cairngorms National Park area and Forestry Commission Scotland.

The commission is due to commence on 1 January 2015.
