DUMFRIES PRIMARY PUPILS TAKE OVER TOP HAIR SALON FOR BURNS’ BIRTHDAY

The Worlds Biggest Burns’ Nicht Celebration’Big Burns Supper’ and Dumfries based award winning hair salon ‘Browns’ get together with Lochside Primary School to offer an unforgettable hair experience
Lochside Primary School pupils are taking over browns hairdressers where they will offer shampoos, blow-dries and styling to clients getting ready for Burns Night celebrations.

The Salon 1962 project is a collaboration between the Big Burns Supper festival and salon proprietor Nelson Brown.
Nelson, a Dumfries-based international stylist, said: “This is a first for our area and it’s a great way for the children to get real hands-on experience providing shampoos, blow-dries and hair ups for willing, brave clients.
“They will be in charge for the entire day and will have lots of responsibilities, including welcoming clients into the salon and introducing them to the full browns experience. This will include backwash relaxation and carrying out a hair service with the help of our own team.”
The P6 children will learn about the client’s journey in the salon and will be taken through the basics of meeting and greeting, making drinks and dressing hair.

Appointments cost £6.50 and it’s best to book in advance. All money raised will go to school funds.
Nelson added: “Please be supportive enough and book yourself appointment, it will make the children’s day!
“We are delighted to be working alongside them to help raise money for such a great cause. And we hope to make your visit to the salon extremely memorable and fun.”
Graham Main, Big Burns Supper Artistic Director, said: “It’s amazing what happens when you put children in charge – it gives you a new perspective and can make you really optimistic about the future.
“They want to see a better world, and perhaps we can give them the skills they need to build it. It’s important that we use the arts to fire young people’s imaginations, broaden their horizons and give them the confidence to go out and achieve.
“Every time we go into schools we are amazed by the talent and enthusiasm of the children. And we are looking forward to seeing adults get their own confidence up and trust the children with their hair.”

Salon 1962 takes place on 25 January, the perfect day as many people will be preparing for an evening celebrating the Bard’s birthday. One of the main events will be Big Burns Supper’s own Family Burns Night where 300 people will enjoy great entertainment in the main Spiegeltent venue.
The brown’s salon is at 8, Whitesands, Dumfries. To make a Salon 1962 appointment book online via www.bigburnssupper.com.
