DUMFRIES TOWN BAND RECEIVES £20,000 GRANT FROM THE HOLYWWOD TRUST

Dumfries Town Band has ambitious plans including the purchase of new instruments which will provide opportunities for existing and new members. The Band’s existing instruments, although very good, do not meet the exacting requirements of competitions. The Band’s quest has been assisted by The Holywood Trust with a grant of £20,000. Some of the band’s current instruments will now be freed up for new members to learn to play and develop their skills.

Neill McDonald, Musical Director of the Band, said:
“On behalf of Dumfries Town Band, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the grant we have received from the Holywood Trust.
The grant has enabled us to expand into new ventures and give more opportunity to young people who wish to learn an instrument.
The grant has funded six new cornets, a new trombone, a new baritone and several percussion items all complete with accessories and this in turn has allowed us to give top quality instruments to our learners.
Once again a huge thank you Trustees and staff of the Holywood Trust.”

Karen Ward Boyd, Director of the Holywood Trust said:
“The Trust was delighted to be able to support Dumfries Town Band which is providing so many opportunities to those interested in playing a brass instrument including those with no previous experience and, importantly for the Trust, many young people. We look forward to following its progress over the next few years. If the enthusiasm of the members we have met during the last few months is anything to go by, they have exiting times ahead of them!”
