Moffat Hospital and Thomas Hope Hospital, Langholm, have been recognised for their high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and food safety with an Eat safe award.
Moffat and Thomas Hope Hospitals achieved this accolade as a result of their commitment to food hygiene and food safety management standards beyond those required by law.
Eat safe is designed to promote excellence in food hygiene in catering businesses across Scotland, and is administered by Local Authority Environmental Health Services in conjunction with Food Standards Scotland.
The award scheme helps to provide an added level of confidence to the patients and staff of Moffat and Thomas Hope Hospitals by providing a recognisable ‘sign’ of excellence.
Eligible establishments are assessed for the award as part of scheduled food hygiene inspections, carried out by Officers of the Council`s Environmental Health Service.
Councillor Colin Smyth, Chairman of the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee said: “I would like to offer my congratulations to the staff of Moffat and Thomas Hope Hospitals for all their hard work and for their ongoing commitment to food hygiene. In our region 48 premises have obtained this award so far, out of a total of over 2,000 Food Businesses in the Dumfries and Galloway Region. Environmental Health Officers are working with many more Food Business Operators in an effort to drive up food standards and protect people living, working and visiting our region.
Dumfries and Galloway has a good reputation on producing high quality food and produce, so the more businesses that achieve this accolade the better our international reputation will be. I would urge other food businesses to strive to achieve this award”.
Graham Haining, Nurse Manger, Primary and Community Care Directorate (Annandale) of NHS Dumfries and Galloway said “I am delighted for both patients and staff in Moffat and Thomas Hope Hospitals that their catering departments have received this award. Their hard work in maintenance and improvement of standards has been recognised and they are to be commended for their contribution to improving nutritional standards of care in their respective Hospitals. Congratulations and well done to both teams”.
