Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (Scottish Families) is working with Dumfries and Galloway Alcohol and Drug Partnership to understand more about the experiences of families affected by alcohol and drugs across the region.
There are many people living in Scotland who are worried about someone’s alcohol or drug use and who are often too embarrassed or afraid to talk to anyone else about this. We want to speak to communities and family members through surveys, focus groups and one-to-one interviews about their own lived experience. People will have the chance to share their ideas about improving family support and involvement across Dumfries and Galloway, and the best way to reach local families.
Scottish Families is also working with alcohol, drug and other services in Dumfries and Galloway to discuss their concerns and to increase their understanding about the positive benefits of including families in their work.
Justina Murray, CEO of Scottish Families said: “We know that families concerned about someone’s alcohol or drug use can be found in every community and in all circumstances. There is not a ‘type’ of family affected by addiction. Yet people still feel a shame, stigma and secrecy about what is going on at home. We welcome the opportunity to work with Dumfries and Galloway Alcohol and Drug Partnership to identify and reach families across the region. We want family members to realise that they are not alone, and that help and support is available.”
Through taking part in our community survey, you can share your views and experiences and help influence future support for families.
