FERRETS FOUND TRAPPED IN DUMFRIES MANHOLE

The Scottish SPCA was alerted after two ferrets were found trapped down a manhole in Dumfries.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Monday (3 August) when the animals were discovered by construction workers at the site of a new hospital being built in the town.
Animal rescue officer Tricia Smith was able to reach the ferrets using a net but unfortunately one ran away.

The rescued ferret is now in the care of Dunragit Kennels in Stranraer.
Tricia said, “The ferrets were around a metre and a half underground when the builders uncovered the hole. It’s likely they fell down when the cover was off.
“We don’t know how long they had been in there but the ferret we caught is in good health and the one who ran off looked in fine condition.
“I will be scouting the area for the second ferret and the builders will also be keeping an eye out. I’d like to thank them for their assistance during the rescue as they were a great help.
“The ferret now in the care of Dunragit Kennels is a neutered male with polecat colouring.

If anyone recognises him we would ask them to contact the kennels on 03000 999 999.”
