FIRE CREWS TACKLE GRETNA FARM BLAZE

At 04:05 hours this morning, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Control Centre in Johnstone received a 999 call informing them of a farm building on fire on the edges of the village of Gretna. As a result of the call, two fire appliances were mobilised to the scene from Gretna and Annan Community Fire Stations, with one other fire appliance being mobilised from nearby Longtown by our colleagues in the neighbouring Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.

The first fire appliances arrived within minutes and the attending crews were faced with a developing fire within an industrial farm building. The Incident Commander immediately assessed the situation and due to the size of the blaze requested additional resources; resulting in two other fire appliances being mobilised to the scene from Annan and Langholm Community Fire Stations.

Fire-fighters, wearing breathing apparatus sets, are currently continuing to tackle the blaze using a number of main firefighting water jets, capable of projecting water a considerable distance.

Fire and rescue service crews are working alongside colleagues from Police Scotland to bring the situation to a safe conclusion and it is estimated they will remain in attendance for some considerable time.

No further information is available at this time.
