The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after five border collie puppies were abandoned on Main Street in Sandhead near Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway.
The puppies were abandoned in a shed and had been left overnight. They were immediately taken to the charity’s Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Ayr.
The collie pups have been named Skye, Arran, Barra, Ailsa and Iona by staff at the centre.
Scottish SPCA Inspector Paul Tuchewicz said, “This was an incredibly cruel act and we are very keen to trace the person who left these puppies alone and frightened.
“They were hungry when they were found but are in good bodily condition.
“They’re all beautiful puppies and we’re sure there will be no shortage of people wanting to offer them a new home.
“If anyone can help us trace the person who owned them we would urge them to come forward.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
