Professional landscape photographer Allan Wright & Wildlife and Portrait photographer Roger Lever are organising an exhibition in Castle Douglas with all proceeds going to Syrian refugee charity MOOL and Marie Curie.
“The available room at the back of the PA Pop Up Shop was just a black hole really,” Allan tells us, “but I realised it would be a great opportunity to create a gallery for artists to show larger collections of work and to bring more people into the shop.”
Allan and Roger are part of the PA Pop Up shop in Castle Douglas, which contains the work of 24 artists and makers from the area. The new exhibition space, named Gallery 141, will hold changing exhibitions by members and guests.
“We got a great response to the gallery idea when we spoke to the other members so decided just to go for it,” says Allan. He had recently closed his own gallery at Parton and so re-homing the existing artwork for charity was an obvious concept. “The situation in Syria is one of the most horrific things happening in the world today. I know some of the people who are working incredibly hard to help, which brings it even closer to home.”
Allan’s images of Scottish landscape, cityscape and nature will hang alongside the wildlife and portraiture of Dalbeattie-based Roger Lever, who is also donating 100% of sales to the charities including the local branch of Marie Curie. “The unsung heroes of Marie Curie deserve every mention they can get when it comes to caring for people in the last stages of terminal illness,” says Roger”.
A special exhibition opening event is on Wednesday 4th April from 4pm to 7pm and will be attended by Allan, Roger and other members of the PA Pop Up shop, including Jay Rubenstein. Jay is a trustee of MOOL and will be selling his wooden mobiles for MOOL. It starts at 4pm and everyone is welcome.

Gallery 141 Charity Exhibition opens on Tuesday 3rd April and runs all month. It is open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm.
