Electric Theatre Workshop the Group Behinfd the highly Successful “Big Burns Supper” based in Dumfries will be convening this year’s Guid Nychburris Parade as part of the Festival which runs in June
Dumfries and Galloway ! What’s Going On? is the official Participation Partner for this event – and Electric Theatre Workshop will become an official hub for Guid Nychburris
For the first time – there will be no categories, because we want to make it a really fair and open celebration of our community here in Dumfries. There will be Awards which will be judged by artists from Dumfries & Galloway, but our focus this year is on getting as many people to take part, rather than on judging their creativity.
This year’s theme is Brighter Futures, and groups are asked to think about responding to the overall theme in as creative way as possible. We like this theme idea as it has a really optimistic feel to it, and it means we are looking into the future. You can make your entry fit into the overall theme, or if you have had another idea – can enter that without sticking to our theme. Entrants will be split into walking or a float.
Justin Hyslop, Associate Director said:
“We are really excited to be working on this project, and our job is to make it easy for people to take part. Our online submission system means that you have no excuse not to get involved and we will also be providing free design training to help inspire people. Anyone can get involved.”
Electric Theatre Workshop delivers community arts from their studios on Munches Street is a community interest company, and their venue is paid for by subscriptions to Dumfries Community Choir, Dumfries Youth Theatre and other commercial activity.
Karen Clapperton, Chair of Electric Theatre Workshop said:
“It is our absolute privilege to be asked to curate this year’s Parade on behalf of Guid Nychburris, and our community asset is entirely owned by our community, so it is in a great position to become the nerve centre of activity for the celebrations. Thanks to our participants who pay for this unique building in the centre of Dumfries for enabling us to do this project”
