HEAVY RAIN AND FLOOD WARNINGS ISSUED FOR REGION

The Met office UK has issued a yellow warning of heavy and persistent rain for southern Scotland on Wednesday before gradually easing during Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Many places within the warning area will see 25-50 mm of rain, with around 100 mm possible over higher ground. Heavy rain will gradually clear eastwards during Wednesday night. There remains some uncertainty with regards to the exact location of the heaviest rain. Heavy rain will be accompanied by strong winds across many parts of the warning area.

SEPA have also issued a flood alert for Dumfries and Galloway during this period  of heavy rain which is expected during Wednesday across southern and eastern parts of the area. The rain will be heaviest during Wednesday afternoon. This has the potential to cause isolated flooding to low-lying land and roads and difficult driving conditions due to standing water.

Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.
