RSPB Mersehead is hosting a fun day out on March 15, with their first ever wildlife treasure hunt.
The hunt will involve searching for clues and taking part in activities set out around the reserve on a buggy-friendly route, making it easy for all the family to take part. Participants will also be in with a chance of winning some great prizes, including a family ticket to Cream o’ Galloway.
RSPB Scotland’s Kirsty Griffiths said: “We’ve tried to make our treasure hunt really inclusive, so that families can come along and have fun doing it together. There’s lots to see on the reserve at this time of the year, so while you’re out searching for the clues, you’ll also be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of wildlife, like our lapwings, which will be starting to display for the spring.”
As well as the treasure hunt, there will be a tombola, face painting and story telling, with refreshments also available for a small donation.
To take part, there is a suggested donation of £10 for 2 adults and 2 children, with a small supplement for any additional team members. All money raised on the day will go towards supporting RSPB conservation and education work in the local area.
Each group will receive a goodie bag for completing the treasure hunt, and will be entered into a draw for the top prizes, including a two-night camping pass at Kippford Caravan Park, and a bird box kit from Wildforms.
The treasure hunt will take place at Mersehead nature reserve, near Dalbeattie, on Saturday, March 15 from 10am-3pm. Equipment for the hunt itself will be provided, but it is recommended that you wear stout shoes and come dressed appropriately for the Solway weather in March!
