Dumfries and Galloway Council and Police Scotland joined ranks during a litter day of action, to deal with those who blight our countryside, towns and villages with litter.
The event which was coordinated by Keeping Scotland Beautiful aims is to raise the profile of litter enforcement which can mean a monetary on the spot fine being issued to anyone seen dropping litter, cigarette ends or not clearing up after their dog.
Sergeant Emma Dodds said: “Dog fouling and littering is an anti social crime which affects all of our communities, we are working with Dumfries and Galloway Council Community Safety Team to enforce the message that action will be taken against anyone who is seen committing these acts.”
David Russell, Senior Community Safety Officer states: “Dog fouling and dropping litter remain to be the most common complaints being made to the Community Safety Team and we will continue to work with Police Scotland in carrying out the necessary enforcement action in an effort to reduce the problem.”
