Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities are delighted to be showcasing a fantastic weekend celebrating everything food related.
The weekend includes demonstrations from a selection of the finest chefs, a farmers market, street food and a range of related events such as film showings.
The Kirkcudbright Food Festival is back for 2022 with a great line up of fantastic chefs and this year we are showcasing the very best of local talent. The event will take place in a purpose build marquee in the Harbour Square and the weekend kicks off on Saturday morning with local lad Chris Hainey from the Selkirk Arms Hotel in the town.
There are a number of demonstrations each day, each with its own theme, so there is definitely something for everyone. On Saturday Lesley Atkins from The
Nourishing Space will explore the secrets of the Mediterranean Food & Lifestyle; Ashley Rainbow of Casa Mia will be creating Mexican street food, including pulled beef brisket chimichangas and Douglas Lisi from Tighnamara Hotel is back at the Kirkcudbright Food Festival with some mouth watering Italian dishes including sirloin steak thermidor with tiger prawns.
Sunday’s demonstrations include Ed Pook, Chef owner of Pook’s Kitchen in Castle Douglas, who will be making ‘smoked lamb and foraging ingredients’; Anup
Domanic, pastry chef at Gather Bistro, will be creating the ultimate sweet treat, a ‘melting moment’ chocolate sphere. We also have Jonathon Brett, Executive Chef of The Globe Inn, who is hotly tipped for a Michelin star very soon. Jonathon will be making scallops with crab, loin of lamb and a pineapple pain perdu dessert. Event Convenor John Blaikie said ‘Dumfries and Galloway is home to some of the countries’ finest chef’s and we are delighted that many of those will be joining us in Kirkcudbright on the 22 nd & 23 rd October’ he continued ‘The Food Festival is one of our most popular events and this year will be back to its full potential, after a few years of limitations as a result of the pandemic. The chefs are fantastic, the market is packed with the best producers, there is a great selection of street food and the extra events over the weekend, all with a food theme, are set to be brilliant.’ The Dark Space Planetarium will be showing two food themed films over the
weekend, with the movie ‘The Hundred Foot Journey’ starring Helen Mirren on Friday evening and on Saturday, the film ‘Chef’, with Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jnr, Sophia Vergara and Dustin Hoffman. Tickets can be purchased from the Planetarium at https://www.darkspaceplanetarium.org/events/
