Dumfries and Galloway Policing Division has a new addition to its local policing estate. Kirkcudbright Police Station has now co-located with Kirkcudbright Fire Station in St Marys Street, Kirkcudbright.
The police station has been decommissioned and follows the closure of the local sheriff court and procurator fiscal’s office which closed for business a number of years ago.
Officers are familiar with their new premises due to their partnership with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).
Chief Superintendent Linda Jones formally recognised the decommissioned police station and its co-location yesterday. She was joined by SFRS Area Commander, Craig McGoldrick, Kirkcudbright Community Officer, PC John Brown and Councillors Dougie Campbell, Jane Maitland and Pauline Drysdale.
Chief Superintendent Jones said: “This closure marks the end of policing from an old building which has been without its criminal justice neighbours for almost ten years now. Kirkcudbright Police Station has not been entirely fit for purpose since those neighbours moved on and I am delighted that my officers are co-locating with our partners in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“The design and layout of their local fire station is really conducive for my officers to work from and is already a well-established landmark in the Kirkcudbright community. Indeed, members of the local community will have seen the decommissioning work under way at the old police station and I would like to thank them for their patience while this work was being carried out. I hope they will be reassured by this co-location arrangement.
“I would like to take this opportunity to assure the local community of no change in the quality of policing and no change in the quality of service they have come to expect from their local officers.”
