ROTARY YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER COMPETITION
As a talent, and an art form, Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland each year celebrates the photographic skills of thousands of young people with a competition that gives them the chance to demonstrate and display just what they can produce. This year, the theme was “People” and entrants were asked to submit a portfolio of three different prints on that theme.
The photographs could be black and white or in colour and on photographic quality paper no larger than A4 size. In addition, each entrant must provide a description of the inspiration for their photographs and how they reflect the theme in no more than 50 words. The competition is split into three different age categories, with ages taken on 31st August 2013.
This year the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright received a strong entry from the local Primary Schools with a very high standard of photographs being submitted in this Junior section of the Young Photographer competition. Alexander McCormick from Kirkcudbright Primary School was eventually judged to be the winner of the Club competition and as such he went on to take part in the Rotary District 1020 round of the competition from which he emerged as the winner once again. This qualified him to take part in the National Final which once again he won making him the RIBI UK Junior Young Photographer winner for 2014. In recognition of this tremendous achievement Alexander was presented with a trophy, a certificate and a cheque for £100 last Friday at the Rotary Club of Kircudbright Art Competition Presentation Evening in the Kirkcudbright Town Hall. Alexander’s winning photographs, together with other highly commended entries, can be viewed here during the duration of the current ‘Glasgow Girls’ exhibition.
