An award of £400 has been presented by the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society to Kirkcudbright Skatepark.
The three Stewartry branches of the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society (RSCDS), which include Gatehouse, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright, held a charity dance in Springholm Hall earlier this year and have donated the money to Kirkcudbright Skatepark who are trying to attract funding to build a quality skatepark in town.
The local branches of RSCDS organise a charity dance every two years and each branch in turn decides who or which organisation will benefit from the proceeds. This year their decision was to help young people in Kirkcudbright by donating much needed funds to Kirkcudbright Skatepark who are campaigning for an excellent outdoor facility at Gartshore Park opposite the swimming pool.
Chairman of Kirkcudbright Skatepark, Alan McClure, said;
“We are absolutely delighted to receive such a generous donation from the local branches of the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society and would like to thank all of their members for their consideration and work to provide this. The skatepark will provide a safe, outdoor space for those on wheels of any kind and also a great, social space for adults and it’s wonderful to have this kind of community support backing the project”.
Moria Stacey, Chairman of the Kirkcudbright branch of RSCDS said;
“The Stewartry Branches of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society are delighted to make this contribution to Kirkcudbright’s Skatepark venture and wish the project every success in the future.”
Volunteers are urgently needed to help the project, particularly young people who may be looking for work experience in the third sector.
If you are interested in supporting, have any suggestions or wish to attend the Kirkcudbright Skatepark Committee please contact the Chairman, Alan McClure on [email protected] or message the committee via the facebook page ‘Kirkcudbright Skatepark’.
