Joan McAlpine MSP was delighted to present local nursery Sparklers, with an award for achieving the Investors in Young People Standard. The award is determined following a meeting with young people employed at the nursery and a report from the nursery themselves.
Ms McAlpine handed over the award in Sparklers’ Gretna premises. She said:
“Sparklers should be commended for their award and their investment in training of young people. They are a great example of what working together in the community can achieve. Using local training group Minerva, they provide their staff with ongoing further development opportunities funded by the Scottish Government.”
After presenting the award Ms McAlpine was shown around the nursery. With rooms catering for babies from 3 months to 12 years, all age groups are accommodated and there is a sensory room for children with disabilities/learning difficulties.
Ms McAlpine said,
“The Scottish Government will increase free nursery provision to 1140 hours by the end of the next parliament and quality private sector nurseries like Sparklers should have a role to play in the massive expansion of early years education. They offer flexibility and choice to parents.”
