McAlpine Launches Manifesto for Dumfriesshire

Joan McApine  launched her Manifesto for Dumfriesshire this morning, promising to ‘put Dumfriesshire centre stage’ and unveiling a mix of ambitious pledges designed to improve the ambition, competitiveness, connectivity and quality of life in the region.

 

Among Ms McAlpine’s promises to Dumfriesshire are:

  • Champion City status for Dumfries to unlock a City Region Deal for Dumfriesshire, similar to the £315 million deal recently secured by Inverness and the Highlands .
  • Hold a Transport Summit to identify transport priorities and to raise ambitions about what can be achieved.
  • Campaign at a UK level for massively improved mobile internet coverage across Dumfriesshire to support our region’s businesses, in particular tourism businesses, and supporting the SNP’s pledge for 100% superfast broadband coverage for all premises.
  • A mix of education pledges, including supporting the continuation of the Barony College and campaigning for flexibility in the pledged increased childcare to better suit the needs of rural working lives.

 

Ms McAlpine also pledged to support local NHS and third sector services and

she emphasised the importance of agriculture and small business to the local economy and outlined how the SNP will address their unique needs​

​.​At the Manifesto for Dumfriesshire launch Ms McAlpine said:

“My campaign is focussed around getting things done for Dumfriesshire and the purpose of the Manifesto for Dumfriesshire is to identify tangible activities that I can do as constituency MSP to make Dumfriesshire a more ambitious​, more connected, healthier, more successful and a more secure place to live and work.”
