Met Office Warning Updated As Snow & Ice Starts To Hit Region

Ice and Snow have started to affect some of the regions roads today Tuesday the 29th of January, The Met office has issued a warning (Yellow) to expect further snow showers and more ice across west and northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland during the evening and overnight into Wednesday. 

The Met Office stated ” Expect 1-3 cm of fresh snow even down to very low levels in places, but locally around 5 cm across the Northern Highlands. Temperatures dropping below freezing later this afternoon will result in ice forming onto untreated surfaces.”

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
