Four major projects for south west in two months
A £2m health centre has been unveiled in Dumfries and Galloway – the fourth infrastructure project to be completed by hub South West in the last two months.
The primary care centre in Dalbeattie was visited today by Michael Matheson, Minister for Public Health. Mr Matheson met staff and looked around the new building, which is due to handover to NHS Dumfries and Galloway on 11 July.
The project was funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by hub South West Scotland Limited, in partnership with the Scottish Futures Trust and NHS Dumfries and Galloway. Another primary care centre at nearby Dunscore has been completed by hub South West in the last few weeks, along with a £2.3m medical centre in Ardrossan, and the £1.5m Irvine Annickbank Office Development.
Hub South West has a delivery pipeline of circa £400m of projects currently on its books, including three health centres under construction for NHS Lanarkshire in Kilsyth, East Kilbride and Wishaw with a total value of £42m. These are estimated for completion in March, May and August next year respectively.
The centre will be called Craignair Health Centre and will offer eleven clinical rooms alongside staff and administration facilities, with associated car parking. Health services will include podiatry, orthoptics, physiotherapy, health visitors and district nurses, midwifery and visiting specialists. Improved facilities will provide support for all members of the community, increasing the capacity of an existing local GP practice and providing adequate space for patents, visitors and staff.
Mr Matheson said:
“The new Dalbeattie Primary Care Centre is an excellent facility that will be an asset to the NHS and serve the local community well for decades to come. Along with the similar centres at Ardrossan and Dunscore this represents a significant Scottish Government investment in the south west of Scotland.
“These new buildings are not just good news for the patients and staff of the NHS. Investment on this scale has a tremendously positive effect on the local economy – creating jobs and apprenticeships and helping local businesses.
“The Scottish Government has an investment programme of more than £8 billion over the next two years – supporting around 50,000 full time jobs in Scotland. We remain convinced that this approach is the best way to protect jobs and keep the Scottish economy growing.”

“The Dalbeattie Primary Health Care team is very excited about the forthcoming move to the new Craignair Health Centre. The team takes an holistic approach to health care, with a particular emphasis on involving local partners in working towards improving the health and wellbeing of the whole community. The new Health Centre will offer a focal point for this work, combining modern Primary Care facilities with design features encouraging the local population to lead full and healthy lives.”

Additionally over 70 per cent of the works packages placed were delivered by companies located within the South West territory.”
