Minister Seeks Views of Citizens in Dumfries

Education Governance Review comes to Dumfries and Galloway next week
Anyone from the Dumfries and Galloway area with an interest in the future of education is invited to a public meeting, hosted by Shirley-Anne Somerville, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science.
In September, the Scottish Government announced the start of a major governance review, which has at its heart the aim of empowering schools to take the decisions necessary to improve children’s attainment.
As part of this review, the Scottish Government is engaging with young people, teachers, parents, community groups – and many more. Ministers are meeting with people around the country to hear their views firsthand.
The Dumfries event takes place on 8 November, between 10:30 – 12:30, at the Cairndale Hotel. The session will be held in round table discussions, offering everyone the opportunity to participate.
Shirley-Anne Somerville said:
“We are absolutely committed to doing all we can to ensure schools deliver the best outcomes for our young people and boost attainment, with teachers empowered to make decisions about learning within schools, supported by parents and the local community.
“That is why we are seeking input from groups and individuals throughout Scotland on the changes needed to support this aim. I am looking forward to the session in Dumfries and would encourage everyone with an interest to register and come along.”
