Speeding motorcycles – Dumfries and Galloway
Police Scotland report that during patrols in last week’s road safety campaign relating to vulnerable road users, and as part of Operation Zenith which is focusing on improving rider behaviour, three male motorcyclists from the Sheffield area were stopped on the A75 road near to Gatehouse of Fleet after being observed driving at excessive speed on Saturday 9 May 2015. As a result, a 36 year old, a 42 year old and a 46 year old man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for road traffic offences which include driving at speed of between 130/135 mph in a 60 mph limit.
Inspector Neil Hewitson of the Roads Policing Unit says “these are ridiculous speeds on a public road and officers will be continue to patrol all our roads in the region to promote safe and responsible motorcycling as part of Operation Zenith. In the run up this week to the North West 200 motorcycle event in Northern Ireland our roads will become much busier with motorcycle traffic and officers will be out on patrol to ensure that those passing through are adhering to the laws of the road.”
