At 12:26 on Saturday 2nd November 2024 Police Scotland asked for the assistance of Moffat Mountain Rescue to come to the aid of an injured Mountain Biker in Ae Forest near Dumfries.
12 team members responded to the Callout where paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service were already at the casualty’s location. The casualty’s injuries were assessed and treated by Scottish Ambulance Service paramedics and one of Moffat MRT’s team Doctors, Paramedic and Remote Rescue Medical Technicians. Other members of Moffat MRT carried equipment including a stretcher and wheel to the location ready for extrication.
The remote location meant phone signal was absent so help needed to be called by a friend calling 999 closer to phone reception. In this location, satellite technology would have been the only option from the scene (see ‘In an Emergency‘ section of our webpage detailing what to do in areas of weak phone signal).
The casualty was provided with heat pads and environmental proection, then using the pain relief from the Scottish Ambulance Service, her leg was aligned and immobilised in a vacuum splint by the MRT team. She was packaged into a casualty bag and stretcher before being carried from the hillside with the aid of a back rope to a waiting Scottish Ambulance Service vehicle and their crew for ongoing treatment and further assessment at hospital.
