Last chance to buy tickets for ‘cosmic journey’
This Sunday marks one week to go until the official launch of Scotland’s new £1million work of land art, the Crawick Multiverse, on Sunday 21 June.
Tickets are still available for the spectacular public unveiling, which coincides with the summer solstice.
Ticket holders will have the chance to enjoy the new ‘cosmic landscape’ near Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway, which has transformed a former open cast coal mine into a stunning visitor attraction, more than two weeks before it officially opens to the public.
The new 55-acre artland and public amenity – inspired by the themes of space, astronomy and cosmology; created by the world-renowned Charles Jencks; and funded by the Duke of Buccleuch – will be open to the public from Friday 10 July.
The unforgettable day of celebration taking place on 21 June features a programme of music, poetry and performance.
Scottish artist Alex Rigg from Oceanallover will take the audience ‘on a journey through space on time’, using dance-theatre, sculpted costumes and a cast of 30 performers to help visitors explore the unique artland.
Rachel Sivills, Event Producer for the Crawick Multiverse, said: “The launch promises to be spectacular, with stand-out performances by Alex Rigg and his cast of thirty, so I would encourage anyone who doesn’t already have a ticket to get booking during this final week before the big event.
“Those coming along will get an exclusive look at the stunning site weeks before it opens to the public. Affordable tickets are available for adults, children and concessions. Children aged under five can come along for free, and we have great value family passes available.”
Tickets cost £10 for adults, £7.50 concession, £5 for children and under 5s go free, and family tickets cost £25 – available from www.crawickmultiverse.co.uk/launch-event.* They are also on sale via A’ The Airts in Sanquhar and the Kirkconnel Parish Heritage Society.
Parking will be available at the site but spaces are limited so must be pre-booked online. Simply select a free parking ticket when purchasing admission tickets via the Crawick Multiverse website.
Attendees are encouraged to use a free shuttle bus service which will operate from two pickup points – Sanquhar Train Station, and Kirkconnel Bus Stand at the bottom of Holmhead. They will run at least every 15 minutes from 11.30am-6.30pm.
Buses will also run from Glasgow (George Square), Edinburgh (Waterloo Place) and Dumfries (White Sands) – tickets cost from £7-£13 and can also be purchased online.
