These are young people who have volunteered to be trained to lead Universal Personal Support groups in conflict resolution across the school. These young people have now received their training to enable them to lead other members of their groups in tackling all forms of conflict.

They will discuss leadership skills, which will enable them to give a balanced view on 21st century problems, such as, stereotype, prejudice, bias and resolving conflict in education. Establishing learning habits, which will enable them to access all forms of learning in school and beyond.  Encouragement will be given to open up discussion on mental health issues and solutions will be agreed to help everyone no matter what the problem. Projects will then be developed, allowing each group to decide what they would like to do to make their school, home and community a better place.

Advanced Peace Advocates will receive further training to tackle low level conflict in the school. Priority will be given to S1 to ensure that everyone has a voice and feels confident to express their worries.

A spokesperson from Kirkcudbright Rotary said “We now have all the school participating in the Peace Project on a regular basis. In September we have a discussion with John Swinney, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Sec for Education. We will be discussing concerns from the Peace Advocates about 21st century education, primarily raising awareness of the importance of conflict resolution skills as a core area of the curriculum.
