DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY POLICE DIVISION have issued a warning after a 60 year old man fell victim to a £30K fraud last week after believing he was investing money into a legitimate investment company.
A police spokesperson stated “The man had originally carried out research on google which provided the company claiming to trade as Clyde Asset Management.
After several phone calls with apparent qualifiers and financial advisors, the man transferred the money to his new account created by the firm.
After receiving a strange email from the company a few days later, the man tried to contact them where he was met with an automated voicemail stating the numbers were being investigated for fraudulent activity. The man then also discovered his account had been blocked and could not be accessed.
Enquiries revealed that although Clyde Asset Management is a genuine and reputable company, the business had been cloned and was being used for Fraudulent transactions with the person(s) responsible, being from the London area.
Before locking in a deal with a company, first confirm they are genuine and reputable by carrying out some checks and research on them. Be wary and remain vigilant at all times.”
