POLICE ON HUNT FOR MOFFAT ‘CASH SCAMMER’

Ringing the Changes – Moffat

Police Scotland want to trace the following described man in relation to a ‘ringing the changes’ type scam which took place at the shop premises of The Edinburgh Woolen Mill in Ladyknowe , Moffat at around 1450 hours on Thursday 13 August 2015.

At that time the man in question attempted to exchange a large quantity of bank notes, however changed his mind and in the process managed cause confusion at the till. It was later discovered that £160 had been stolen. Constable Bob Dickson of Police Scotland at Moffat said “this is an old scam which works by confusing the shop assistant by the perpetrator constantly changing their mind as to what it is they actually want in the exchange. The man we are looking for is about 30 years of age, 5’9″ tall, heavy build, dark skinned possibly eastern Mediterranean or African, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and was wearing a red coloured cast on his arm. He spoke poor English. Anyone who can help is asked to call police at Moffat on 101.”
