POLICE SEEK INFORMATION INTO GALLOWAY FORESTRY THEFTS

Forestry Thefts – Galloway

Police Scotland is investigating the theft of thousands of pounds worth of equipment from JCB diggers at two locations in Galloway sometime overnight Thursday 30 April/Friday 1 May 2015. In the first incident a JCB excavator which was parked at a complex at Clatteringshaws, off the A712 road, was entered and an inboard computer and drive sprockets (gears) have been stolen. This theft would have taken some time to commit and would have required the use of tools. No cost of the stolen items has been given at this time.

In the second incident, again over the same evening, a JCB which was parked near to Murray’s Monument off the A712 road in Galloway. The JCB was entered and the inboard computer stolen. Again those responsible would have been at the machine for some time to commit this crime. Also stolen was a hub cover and two final drive shafts. The cost of replacing this equipment is estimated at around £3000.

Police are keen to trace the occupant of a dirty silver coloured, long wheel base Mitsubishi Shogun 4 x 4 which was seen driving slowly near to Murray’s Monument on the evening of Thursday 30 April 2015. The driver was wearing an orange coloured fluorescent jacket.
