Pupils’ Designs Deliver Seasonal Cheer

THERE was a large entry for the traditional schools competition to design a Christmas card for the local MP and MSP.

Father and son politicians David and Oliver Mundell faced a daunting task as they sifted through hundreds of entries produced by pupils across their constituencies.

The overall winner with a colourful rural snowman scene was 11-year-old Oliver McKnight of Closeburn Primary School.

He wins the top prize of a bike with the other finalists receiving gift vouchers.

David, who represents Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale at Westminster, said: “Our joint-card goes out to individuals and organisations across the constituency and one is even delivered to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street.”

Oliver, constituency MSP for Dumfriesshire, added: “All the finalists’ designs appear on the card and our hope is the competition and cards bring a little festive cheer during this difficult period.”

The runners-up were: Abbie Laidlaw, nine, from Langholm Primary School; Libby Cuthbertson, 11, Coulter Primary School, Biggar and Josie Halliday, 11, Kirkpatrick Fleming Primary School.
