Four friends, Paula Voce, Anna Beck, Ruth Asbury and Sally Pattinson who are all from various parts of the region, along with their four bikes will be raiding the boundaries of Dumfries and Galloway and cycling to the four outermost points of the region at the Mull of Galloway, Portpatrick, Wanlockhead and Langholm to raise funds for Maggies Centres and raise awareness for breast Cancer.
Paula Voce told DGWGO “We are a bunch of very good friends who get together to ride bikes (lots) and have side splitting fun. One of the team had the C bomb dropped on her last June and wants to give something back, get fit again and make some memories with her friends. Whilst she was going through her treatment up in Edinburgh she went to the Maggie’s centre had counselling, make up sessions and felt supported by the centre when her family was at home in Dumfries. She could always pop in for a coffee and a friendly chat to get away from the hospital environment so that’s why this is our chosen charity.
This is the important bit – I felt “monthly “ changes in my breast for a few years and thought it was normal as it happened at that time of the month. It suddenly felt different after Majorca last year so after 4 weeks of thinking about it I got it checked out and confirmed my diagnosis. Please please don’t think it can’t happen to you it can but early diagnosis can help. Get to know your own breasts so you know if there are any changes and if in doubt get it checked out.
This is a home brewed cycling challenge thought up by all the girls taking part in the challenge. It is cycling the 4 outermost areas of Dumfries & Galloway – Mull of Galloway, Portpatrick, Wanlockhead and Langholm. Starting from Castle Douglas Cycles on 7th June and taking 4 days till we finish back at Castle Douglas Cycles on the 10th June. This will be around 300 miles. We are not doing this to break any land speed records but to have an adventure, raise awareness for breast Cancer , hopefully raise money for the Maggies Centre and ride through Dumfries and Galloways spectacular countryside.”
