To improve the condition of our roads, Dumfries and Galloway Council will be carrying out a number of essential roads maintenance works in Dumfries over the next 3 months, investing around £0.22m.
Many of the works will require road closures (advertised in public notices) and diversions. Unfortunately, these essential works will inevitably cause some disruption and delays for motor traffic but Council staff will strive to ensure that these are minimised as much as possible.
At the weekend, surfacing work was completed at the Annan Road junction with Brooms Road
The programme of planned works and road closures is:
• Lockerbie Road (A709) approaching 30mph speed restriction (surfacing) – preparatory work on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 February; road closed Sunday 28 February, 8am to 1pm
• Garroch Loaning (replacing gas main and sewer) – road closed Friday 26 February, 6pm, to Monday 29 February, 6am
• English Street at Junction with Hoods Loaning (surfacing) – preparatory work on Saturday 5 March, road closed Sunday 6 March, 9am to 5pm
• Annan Road approaching A75 (surfacing) – road closed Monday 7 March to Monday 14 March – access to businesses, including BB Body Repairs, Premier Inn, will be from Annan Road side of works
• Lockerbie Road, between Balmoral Road and Bane Loaning (surfacing) – preparatory work on Saturday 19 March; road closed Sunday 20 March, 9am to 5pm
• Brooms Road, between Leafield Road and Clerkhill, (surfacing) – work will be done in 2 phases; road closed Saturday 2 April to Friday 15 April; road closures will be needed for some of the work
• Queen Street, McLellan Street, Cumberland Street, Brooke Street (regeneration works) – work will be done in several phases, starting Monday 4 April for up to 16 weeks.
During road closures, alternative routes will be signposted. The works can be dependent on weather conditions, which can shorten or prolong works. Roads will be reopened to traffic as soon as possible once the works have been completed.
Council officers are liaising with businesses, bus operators, transport agencies and the emergency services on travel management and minimising disruption to services.
Other works are also currently being planned, including:
• Nunholm Road, near to the fishermen’s car park (surfacing) – road closed Thursday 18 February
• Carthagena Placed (surfacing) – road closed Tuesday 23 February
• Kirkland Road [cul-de-sac] (surfacing) – road closed Wednesday 24 February
• Hardthorn Road/Alloway Road junction (surfacing) – closed Sunday 28 February
• Lochside Road/Alloway Road (surfacing) – 3-way traffic lights Tuesday 22 to Wednesday 23 March
• Carrick Road, between Lochside Road and Balcary Avenue (sewer repairs) – road closed Monday 21 to Wednesday 30 March (provisional)
